Styling My daughter as a Bride
Every Indian girl dreams of being a beautiful bride. As we all know, India is famous for their Big fat Weddings, there is enough attention on the bride and grooms to look their best for their special day. Let me take you through the process of Bridal styling which starts months before the big day. My experience with this bride is even more special as she happens to be my daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed every part of styling my little princess.
Step-by-step guide for bridal styling
Jewellery: Start your big day preparations by choosing the right jewellery. This is always your biggest investment and make it your priority. Select the outfits according to the jewellery and not vice-versa. Once you decide what you will adorn, diamonds, vilandi, or gold you will know what outfit you can match to your jewellery. As we know every person is different and as per the bride's choice and style, you select the jewellery accordingly. Some brides prefer the classics and love the yellow of gold, while others prefer the polki jewellery's royal look. Diamonds are a girl's best friend, the bride may prefer the elegance of the diamond look. Also, Emeralds in the play are choices made by the Richie rich. So let us begin our first step to bridal styling and trousseau building with our most important investment.
Bridal outfit: many criteria to decide this
The venue: One needs to keep in mind the place where the ceremony is going to take place. If it is a beach wedding, the options differ, if it is a palace wedding your options are more royal.
The time of day of the wedding: Your colour choices for your bridal outfit differ according to the hour of the day. Of course, personal style and colour are big considerations, but the time of the wedding also predicts the colour range to look at.
The theme of the wedding: If you have a theme for the wedding or the venue, you should consider the outfit choices with that in mind. There are many themes like a white wedding, a royal wedding as in Rajasthan palaces, the traditional South Indian weddings etc.
Culture and traditions: Each caste, community and family have their own traditions. Keeping in mind the traditions and culture select the bridal outfit. As per today’s times, with inter-caste marriages which are most common nowadays, we need to consider traditions and culture from both the bride and groom side.
Bridal look:
Body Shape of the Bride: Each bride would like to look her best and we can select her bridal outfit with the strengths of her body shape, thus enhancing her body.
Personality style of the bride : if the personality of the bride is delicate and she is choosing a very heavy outfit or an outfit with heavy material, she may not be the happiest bride.
Skin tone & complexion of the bride: The colour choices for the bridal outfit should enhance the bride's complexion, making her glow on her big day. Disclaimer: not all reds suit all brides, which is a belief that brides look great in red. The correct red needs to be selected which will add to her features and enhance her beauty.
Girl’s perception of a bride: Each girl has grown up thinking how a perfect bride looks. It is important to take her side of the perception of how she would want to look as a bride.
Skincare & Makeup
Skincare routine for the past 6 months: Glowing and radiating skin needs a lot of care and attention. Some basic routine, hydration and sunscreens help you to have this perfect skin. One may consider beauty treatments but avoid them in the last two months. Skin treatments should be discussed with dermatologists for best and safe results.
Treating any skin issues: as said have to prescribe treatments with the doctor’s advice only.
Selecting the right makeup artist as per your needs: Check out the Makeup Artist and her work, discuss what exactly you want on your important days and how you want your looks in totality.
Hair treatments, colour, cuts, and hairstyles: plan your hair colour, hair styles beforehand so that you can style and colour them before your d day. Also what type of hairstyle are you ready to adorn on your special day needs to be discussed with your hair stylist.
Accessories:
Maang tikkas : Select the maang tikkas according to your face shape.
Sheesh phool/ Maatha patti: also the choice between a sheesh phool and Maatha patti is best made as per your face shape.
Haath phool or Hand accessories add to your look but it depends on whether the bride likes it and the type of haath phool, a delicate one or a heavy one
Ear chains: Are trending these days
Payals: a must in many cultures and traditions, are available in many styles, materials, silver, gold polish, and antique polish to list a few.
These are the few accessories that make the look even more royal.
It all depends on how minimalistic or maximalist each bride is. Ultimately it depends on how the girl herself has pictured a perfect bride.
The final and most important part is that a happy bride is the most beautiful one.
As a stylist, I enjoyed styling my bride, but as a mother of the bride each piece of her look was thoughtfully picked to make it super special for her special memories.
